The Big One

The Maldives honeymoon, done right

This is the most famous honeymoon on Earth for a reason — and the easiest to overspend on for the same reason. The right week, the right island and the split-stay strategy buy more romance per dollar than any brochure upgrade. Here’s how we build it.

The strategy

Four calls that make the trip

Timing

Dry-glamour or value-green

Dec–Apr is the flawless postcard at peak price. May–Nov trims 30–40% — that difference funds the seaplane, the spa and three more nights. Shoulder weeks (late Apr, early Dec) split the difference.

The split

Beach first, overwater finale

Start in a beach villa (better privacy, lower rate), end overwater so the icon lands as a crescendo. Same island or two — resorts love the choreography and often sweeten it.

Moments

Book the set-pieces early

Private sandbank dinner, floating breakfast, couples’ spa over the lagoon, sunset dhoni with champagne. The best slots go first — we reserve them with the room.

Perks

Say the word honeymoon

Most resorts stack honeymoon extras — bed decoration, a private dinner, spa credits — free with proof of a recent wedding (usually within 6–12 months). Never book without claiming them.

The honest numbers

What a honeymoon really costs

A beautiful week runs in three shapes. Around $8k per couple: a top-tier guesthouse island plus a two-night overwater finale — same lagoons, spectacular value. Around $15k: a full week at a genuine four-to-five-star resort, beach-to-overwater split, seaplane transfer, the set-piece dinners. $25k and up: the flagship islands — private pools, butlers, house reefs that resemble aquariums, and nobody within sight of your deck.

What we protect you from: paying flagship prices for a middling island, honeymoon weeks colliding with seaplane cut-offs, and the classic mistake — blowing the budget on the room and having nothing left for the moments. Tell us the real number and we’ll build the best version of it.

Just married (or about to be)?

Tell us your dates and budget — we’ll send the three islands we’d honeymoon on ourselves, perks pre-claimed.
