The Seasons Guide

The best time to visit the Maldives

It averages around 30 °C year-round — the question is never temperature. It’s sky, price, and what’s feeding on the reef. December–April is the dry season with the best odds of postcard days; June–October is manta season and the smart-money window. Here’s the whole year, charted.

Climate, charted

One temperature, two seasons

Malé averages 30 °C highs all year with 28–30 °C water. The iruvai (NE monsoon, Dec–Apr) is dry and glassy; the hulhangu (SW monsoon, May–Nov) brings brief dramatic showers, greener light and better prices. Tap a month for the detail.

The calendar

Seasons & spectacles

The Maldives’ calendar runs on animals and light more than festivals. Filter by season — manta aggregations, whale sharks, surf swells and the sea of stars all keep their own schedules.

Day by day

Sun & tide — a typical Malé day

Typical sun and tide rhythm for Malé — the equator keeps days almost exactly twelve hours, year round. Illustrative rhythm — check local tide tables when planning water activities.
