Vagaru is a compact island in Shaviyani Atoll, one of the least-developed corners of the Maldives, and JW Marriott's resort — opened in 2019 — still feels new: clean contemporary lines, glass-forward villas, decks built for lingering. The remoteness does real work here. Fewer neighboring resorts means emptier water, darker night skies and a lagoon that stays glassy in a way the busier central atolls rarely manage.
